Project Descriptions:

The existence of human being on earth fundamentally consists of two entities: the body and the soul. Graveyard contains the relics of people and so it conveys an emblematic presence of the deceased. The place echoes subtlety in ambiance yet a presence of solemnity. Essence of such a place inundates the mind of comers with spiritual reminiscences.

The Banani graveyard contains graves of dignified individuals of the society including eighteen members of the family of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders. Apart from relatives, people from all walks of life pay visit to the Banani graveyard to pay homage to the dignified souls of the nation. The design of the graveyard renders the place with a sense of identity and dignity, reinforcing the spiritual essence of the place in a solemn manner. The signature entity of the design is the entrance that consist of an office, mosque, ablution area, restroom and washing area for the corpses. The entrance gateway has an arch made of jaali with Islamic pattern and exuberance of life marked with vegetation. Islamic calligraphy has been metaphorically used in the wooden louvers, boundary wall and other elements of the design. Translucent canopies adorned with Bougainvillea vines mark the central walkway and adjacent spaces to provide a serene and calm atmosphere for the people to make prayer for the departed souls. The congenial landscaping infuses the place with subtle ethereality so as to conduce people in their pursuit of remembrance.
